Top PEI attractions of course include everything Anne of Green Gables, but elegant heritage properties, coastal parks, and great lobster dinners also welcome visitors.

Visitors to Prince Edward Island will quickly fill their itineraries with things to do in Canada’s smallest province. From beaches and national parks to historic churches and the Anne of Green Gables House or lobster suppers, the attractions in PEI are endless. Here are just a few of the time-tested favorites for PEI visitors.

Anne of Green Gables Attractions and Cavendish, PEI

When touring PEI, the lore of Anne of Green Gables and the book’s author Lucy Maud Montgomery seem to reach all shores of the island. Green Gables House is the best attraction on the island for visitors making a short trip, while many museums dedicated to L.M. Montgomery will offer rainy-day activities for those on a longer vacation.

When at the Anne of Green Gables House, be sure to visit the nearby sands at Cavendish Beach. The area of Cavendish, PEI is also home to a wide variety of attractions to suit a diverse group of travelers, such as:

  • Avonlea Village
  • Brackley Drive-In
  • PEI Preserve Company
  • Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum
  • Stanley Bridge Marine Aquarium
  • Wax World of the Stars

Charlottetown Nightlife and Heritage Properties

Charlottetown is a beautiful provincial capital with historic buildings, live music venues, and excellent shopping. A stroll through the downtown starts at the Founders' Hall visitor center and then on to Province House – where Canada was born – and the ornate and towering St. Dunstans Basilica.

Afterward, relax at The Gahan House Pub and Brewery, 126 Sydney St., or dance an Irish reel just down the street at Olde Dublin Pub, 131 Sydney St.

Top Outdoor Attractions Include PEI National Park

Prince Edward Island National Park rates as a fantastic destination for families and active travelers. With miles of beaches, boardwalks, forested trails, and the paved Gulf Shore Way bicycle and walking path, the national park is worthy of a summer vacation all to itself. Visitors can camp in the park, or stay in a nearby PEI cabin, resort, or hotel.

In the east end of the park, Dalvay-by-the-Sea makes a luxurious destination for a special lunch or afternoon tea. The opulent building was once a summer home is now a Canadian historic site.

Planning a PEI Vacation

Prince Edward Island offers year-round appeal, but is a favorite destination in the warmer months during summer and early fall. Many airlines fly directly to Charlottetown from Canadian and U.S. destinations and travelers can catch flights from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, and New York.

Driving from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, drivers will cross the impressive span of the Confederation Bridge. Alternately, those with a more relaxed schedule can arrive via ferry from Nova Scotia.
